The transatlantic trio of Peter Moren, Bjorn Yttling, and John Eriksson have single handedly reinvigorated a once proud whistling tradition with the unexpected radio hit “Young Folks”.
After all, who could forget vaudevillian whistling sensation, Ronnie Ronalde, who once rivaled Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby in popularity during the 1950’s.
I naturally assumed these cleft chinned Swedes would attempt to capitalize off the current whistling craze sweeping this nation, but instead Peter Bjorn and John have cemented their one hit wonder status with the god awful Living Thing.
First single “Nothing To Worry About” mimics French Electro house duo Justice and their use of a children’s chorus, but isn’t even remotely as infectious.
The astonishingly bad “Lay It Down” also practices whistling abstinence, but earns bonus points for saying what we’re all thinking, “Hey, shut the f*ck up boy/You are starting to piss me off.”
As the editor of Whistling Enthusiasts Monthly, I must say I’m both shocked and appalled by this kind of behavior.
