Depeche Mode Back On Tour

Depeche Mode is back on tour following the recent surgery to remove a tumor from Dave Gahan’s bladder.

The dedicated frontman, who had less than a month of recovery time, will hit the road again to close out the remainder of their European tour as well as reschedule all previously canceled dates.

There would be no Nine Inch Nails or industrial rock for that matter, without the exploits of Synthpop elder statesmen, Depeche Mode, who were at one time responsible for Violator, which to this day stands as one of the most influential albums to emerge from the 90’s.

However, even their storied legacy isn’t enough to absolve them from the bloated corpse of an album they’ve just released in Sounds of the Universe.

Try as they might, Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, and Andrew Fletcher just can’t seem to escape their 80’s New Wave roots, which for better or worse leads to an albums worth of songs that attempt to push boundaries, but ultimately sound exactly like everything else they’ve previously done.

The aptly titled “Wrong” features a poorly underutilized Gahan, who repeats the chorus ad nauseam over a pulsating synth haze.

Depeche Mode will support their latest attempt to ruin any fond memories you’ve had of their music with a tour of the United States.

Watch Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, and the other guy, wade through a sea of crap before playing all your favorites in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Chula Vista, California, and Morrison, Colorado.

Depeche Mode will tour in support of their upcoming album Sounds of the Universe, while simultaneously trying to wash the awful taste in your mouth left by Playing the Angel.

The perplexing choice of Peter Bjorn and John will open for them in San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles for a two night stint at the Hollywood Bowl.
